Psalm 91 Reading Plan Day 1

Read all of Psalm 91

“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
he is my God, and I trust him.
3For he will rescue you from every trap
and protect you from deadly disease.
4He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
5Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
6Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
7Though a thousand fall at your side,
though ten thousand are dying around you,
these evils will not touch you.
8Just open your eyes,
and see how the wicked are punished.
9If you make the Lord your refuge,
if you make the Most High your shelter,
10no evil will conquer you;
no plague will come near your home.
11For he will order his angels
to protect you wherever you go.
12They will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
13You will trample upon lions and cobras;
you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!
14The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
15When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
16I will reward them with a long life
and give them my salvation.”

Note from the Every Man’s Bible

When we see God as our refuge, our protector, we will be eager to seek him and surrender our lives to his care. How comforting to know that when we cry out, God protects us as a mother bird protects her young. Our powerful defender will never fail us if we turn to him for shelter and comfort.

God watches over us, his chosen ones. Sometimes his protection will come in the form of angels who car for us and keep us safe. Other times God may use more natural means. But his help will come. As we cry out to him, he will be with s in our troubles and rescue us.

    1. Dear Christian
      What a lovely story and I’m sure Psalm 91 is still that precious, living word for you and your wife and family today. I grew up on the Word of God and when my husband and I moved with our young family from Victoria to Queensland (Australia), many years ago, my.mum often wrote me letters and added Psalm 91 to them. One day I thought how wonderful it would be to be able to sing this beautiful Psalm and God graciously gave me a tune. So it has remained a really special, favourite psalm for me ever since. God bless you. Josephine (Jo) Petrovic

  2. Many years ago, my wife and I were going through a disastrous time as I was teaching in a Christian school in Seattle. The salary was very small. I held some small secondary jobs to help us make ends meet. Our children were babies and toddlers. We suffered some medical ordeals, surgeries, and were very poor. Yet, I knew I was where I was supposed to be, following God’s direction and plan, and so we labored with joy, but some fear.

    One night, while I was praying for God’s covering and provision, the Holy Spirit led me through to read Psalm 91. It was as though the Lord had turned on a flashlight (torch), shined it on a path to shelter under His wing, and slowly, I could feel my spirit relax, my worries melt into foundational hope, and I actually fell asleep with my Bible on my lap! The next day I shared with my wife and the same joy and hope came over her. Psalm 91 has been our family passage ever since.
